Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a newly established Research Centre of Excellence in Singapore that engages in cutting-edge microbial biofilm research in the fields of water and environmental sustainability, and human health. Research will be conducted at molecular, cellular, community and process levels to explore, understand and manage biofilm-driven process. Advances in the microbial ecology of biofilm communities will help deliver novel solutions applicable in a range of industrial, environmental and medical settings.

By combining both emerging and core scientific disciplines such as

SCELSE creates opportunities for an interactive and multi-disciplinary research environment to address complex problems and scientific challenges. It is special because it sits at the interface between engineering and life sciences, and draws on complementary strengths from NUS and NTU in these disciplines. It seeks to merge cutting-edge life sciences with world-class environmental engineering into a new discipline.
