Methods For Changing Behavior PDAP (201)

 

Students will understand the theory and philosophy of behavioral psychology as it applies to complex behaviors (e.g., thinking, remembering, speaking) and to societal issues and problems. Students will learn some crucial methods for their self-improvement project. The following methods will be covered:

 

(Students will become familiar with the principles and guidelines governing the conduct of behavior technologist such as to enable them to fulfill their professional roles in an ethical manner.)

Antecedent Methods - used prior to the "target" behavior: 
Change the environment
Learn new behavior
Motivation training

 

During-the-Behavior Methods:
Record antecedents & consequences
Self-monitor and check your progress
Thought stopping
Change defeatist attitude
Develop positive expectations

 

Consequence Methods--applied after the "target" behavior has occurred:
Reward the desired behavior
Negative reinforcement
