A cross disciplinary experience
5-day educational camp at National University of Singapore
Being exposed to new cutting edge technology in various fields, students will gain the opportunity to discover their passion and potential for the future.
About the Programme
- Explore Medicine & Surgery Technologies
Over the last 3,000 years, medicine and medical knowledge has progressed radically. Medical knowledge has evolved over many centuries, from primitive brain surgery to modern gene therapy but most major medical discoveries have been made in the past 200 years till present. Students will be introduced to health and disease with reference to cutting edge medicine and surgery developments through lectures and laboratory sessions conducted in advanced surgical training centre.
- Explore Renewable Energy Technologies
Climate change, pollution and energy insecurity are significant world-wide problems and addressing them requires energy re-engineering. In 2007, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded in its fourth assessment report that climate change is unequivocal and the mitigation potential of renewable energy sources was underscored. In this camp, students will gain a better understanding of how the adoption of renewable energy sources will be bolstered by next-generation technologies.
- Explore Smart Buildings
Students will experience not only an interactive journey of Singapore's building development but gain insights into an integration of innovations and new technologies that go into shaping of a high-quality and sustainable environment for today and tomorrow's world. Students will be given chances to understand construction process from scratch to finish. New Green Building Technologies will be introduced, which covers interesting energy efficiency features like energy efficiency envelop, special lighting system and future green classrooms.
- Explore 3D Printing Technology
A 3D printer uses digital data to create real, solid objects through the buildup of many thin layers. Just like document printing, objects such as eyewear or shoes can soon be designed on one’s laptop and printed in one’s own room. In the demonstration session, students will be briefed on the technology and guided through the actual process, from the rendering of digital designs to the actual printing of a 3D object. This is a technology to be watched as its usefulness and impact are being discovered by various disciplines, including the medical field.

Other Camp Features
- Android Programming with App Inventor
The recent phenomenon of the ubiquitous tablet, programming tablet applications may soon become one of our favorite pastimes, surpassing perennial favorites like going to the movies and playing video games. In this lecture and hands-on session, students will learn the fundamentals of programming by creating Android applications in a snap using the App Inventor.
- Camp itinerary includes visit to:
Asia’s playground, Sentosa
Singapore’s revolutionary water treatment plant, NEWater Plant
