What did the participants say about NUS Science Summer Camp?
The NUS Science Summer Camp helped me in so many more ways than I could have ever imagined. Not only did it open up my knowledge and allow it to expand to and experience with all different sorts of fields, it also helped me create friendships I never thought I would make. The science camp had the perfect mix of education, fun, and touring. I went into it expecting it to be kind of like routine school days, where you go to classes, take a couple tests here and there, come home and study, etc. But the camp actually allowed you to experience each field hands-on, so that you do not just gain a surface feel for the area, but rather a deep understanding to help you determine how the field has been used, is used, and will be used. And at night, it gave you all the free time you needed to actually explore the gorgeous island of Singapore, something that I know many would love to see.
Overall, I really enjoyed this science camp, and am so happy that I came.

An experience with Real Science
The NUS summer Camp was an exhilarating experience, it afforded us an opportunity to look at science in a new perspective. In our stay at NUS, the staff was obliging and really helpful.
We all gained a huge amount of insight into the different fields of science, for instance through the enthralling lectures on Biodiversity, Biofuels and Nanotechnology.
In addition to these were the equally compelling demo labs such as the experiments on momentum and electric motors, not to mention the visit to Raffles museum and the jelly making lab which were extremely appealing.
One of our favorites was the formidable Demo lab in Physics where we got to examine an aluminum foil levitate on a magnetic track. Besides just spending time in the vast NUS faculty, we also had a chance to explore the engrossing theme park of Sentosa, an exceptional city tour, with a wonderful guide, which each one of us appreciated.
The 5 days that we spent at NUS provided us an insight into the world of science, the history of Singapore and its role as an important hub for business and financial transactions.
During the sessions at the NUS, we got the opportunity to interact with some of the stalwarts in the field of science and technology whose incisive minds and innovative ideas had resulted in some mind-boggling innovations. In particular, we found the Nanotechnology sessions very inspiring.
The unforgettable experience will be cherished by each one of us for many years to come. We hope that this experience will enable us to think differently and encourage us to become creative, as we embark on the careers of our choice.

The NUS Science Summer Camp, 2012 was an academically as well as emotionally enriching experience. My five-day stay at NUS was characterized by inspiring lectures that stimulated my interest in various aspects of science, remarkable laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and apparatus, uncountable memories and friendships to last a lifetime.
The various workshops on nanotechnology, forensic science, animal classification and the reusability of cooking oil were extremely interesting and educational: I learnt something new in every one of them. The labs in the Science Department were quite impressive and I quite enjoyed the DIY Toys and Microscopy workshops in which we were allowed to experiment for ourselves and come to our own conclusions.
Having always been a day-scholar in school, I got to experience hostel life for the very first time. Staying on-campus provided me with an opportunity to get to know my peers and have fun in the common rooms of the hostel.
The trip to Sentosa Island and the City Tour were a lot of fun. Though I have visited Singapore earlier on several occasions with my family, this time was a completely different exposure, as I learnt to be independent and take my own responsibility.
The camp has renewed my love for not only Physics, but the other Sciences as well. It has taught me how much science is crucial to humanity and how it’s all about “having fun. Spending time with people having similar (or in some cases, identical) interests has made me more confident about pursuing the subject I love for further studies and bringing out the best in myself.
I would definitely recommend others to attend the NUS Science Summer Camp, as it is an once-in-a-lifetime event that will leave behind some amazing memories and stories to tell.Ishita Mathur – Merit: NUS Science Camp Quiz 2012
