Terms and Conditions


1. Registration of all NEX courses will now be accepted only through Online Application. For English Language Programme / Intensive Mandarin Programme, applicant is required to complete the hardcopy Full-time Programme Application form and submit to nexquery@nus.edu.sg

1.2 All courses are subject to confirmation and registrants will be notified of the course status through email about 5 working days before the scheduled commencement date of a course.

1.3 Closing date for registration is 10 working days prior to scheduled commencement date.

1.4 For individual registrations (ie. not company-sponsored), a registrant’s place is only secured upon full payment of course fees. Places are allocated based on a first-come-first serve basis. For company-sponsored registrants, the registrant is enrolled into the course upon course confirmation and invoices will be issued to the company. Please refer to clause 3.0 for payment terms of company-sponsorship.

1.5 Registrant with multiple intake registrations received for a course shall be assigned to one of the registered intakes at the sole discretion of NEX. Registrant of language courses may request for a transfer of the assigned intake but subject to NEX Transfer of Intake policy (clause 6.0).

1.6  Ex-participants of NEX full-time language programmes may be requested by NEX to sit for a language placement test upon registration for re-admission into the programme.

2. Payment of course fees

2.1 NEX’s published course fee (excluding full-time intensive Mandarin & English Language Programmes) includes a non-refundable registration fee as follows:

  • $50 for course fees below $700
  • $120 for course fees $700 & above

For full-time Intensive Mandarin and English Language Programmes, the published course fee of each programme includes a non-refundable acceptance fee of $400 but does NOT include the non-refundable registration fee which is payable in addition to the course fee as follows:

  • $50 for Singapore citizens / permanent residents¹
  • $150 for foreigners¹

¹ Registration fee is applicable to ex-participant of full-time Intensive Mandarin and English Language Programmes who registers for re-admission into the programme, and current participant applying for another language course. 

2.2 NEX reserves the right to allow only registrants with a confirmed place to attend the course. If the registrant is, for any reason, unable to make payment of the course fees to NEX before the stipulated deadline communicated through NEX’s confirmation email, the registrant shall inform NEX in writing and NEX may, in its absolute discretion, offer the registrant alternative payment arrangements. Otherwise, the registrant is deemed to have cancelled his/her course registration and strictly disallowed to attend the course.

2.3 Acceptable modes of payment are as follows:

  • Cash
  • Cheque (crossed & made payable to “NUS” – please indicate your name, contact number, & course title & date on the reverse side of the cheque)
  • NETS (usual daily default limit is $2,000/day)
  • VISA/MASTERCARD Credit/Debit card 
    Upon provision of the credit/debit card details, NUS Extension is authorised to charge the registration/course fees to the registrant for confirmed courses.

Any bank charges incurred have to be borne by the remitter.

2.4 Discounts Available:

  • 20% off the published course fee for full-time NUS Staff and Matriculated students of NUS.
  • 10% off the published course fee for NUS alumni (not applicable to company-sponsored registrants).
  • 5% off published course fee as group discount  for companies registering 3 or more of their staff for the same intake of a course.
  • 10% off the published fees for SIATP members. To enjoy this discount, please quote your membership number. The membership number should begin as ATP/ATA/PTP **** ( followed by 4 digits).

Registrants are entitled to only one category of discount. They are not allowed to claim multiple discounts. Discounts are not allowed for payment towards examination/project fees.

Discount will only be given to NUS staff/student/alumnus who produces a copy of his/her student/staff /alumnus card (or degree scroll) upon registration.

2.5 SDF Assistance

Certain courses are SDF-approved. A list of SDF-approved courses may be found at http://www.skillsconnect.gov.sg/.

If the course is an SDF-approved course, the registrant may apply for SDF assistance directly through SkillsConnect (http://www.skillsconnect.gov.sg/). If he/she has applied for SDF assistance, it has to be indicated on the Course Registration Form before submission to NUS Extension. Upon confirmation of the course, NUS Extension will confirm the enrolment with SDF.

Registrants have to be company-sponsored and must be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents of Singapore. Granting of SDF assistance is at the sole discretion of the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

3. Company-sponsorship

3.1 All company-sponsored registrations will have to complete the section on company details. Please note that your company's contact person should be either your department head or authorised personnel from the HR department.

3.2 Upon course confirmation, an invoice will be sent to the company, to the attention of the company contact person. The payment terms are 30 days from date of invoice for locally-registered companies only. Foreign companies are required to make payment upon receiving our course confirmation and invoice at least 2 working days before the scheduled commencement date of the course.

4. Course Cancellation, Changes & Modifications

4.1 NEX course schedules, including course instructor, course fees and course availability are subject to change.

4.2 NEX reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course at short notice; & at its absolute discretion without assigning any reason for such cancellations/postponements. In the event that the registrant's chosen course is cancelled prior to its commencement, NEX will process a full refund of course fees, and registration fees if there are any, already paid by the registrant.

5. Cancellation/withdrawal/deferment of registration & replacement of registrant

Cancellation/withdrawal prior to course confirmation

5.1 A registrant who wishes to cancel/withdraw his/her registration prior to receiving the confirmation email of the course he/she had registered for, must inform NEX in writing. He/She is liable to pay for the registration fee (Para 2.1). If full payment for the course has been received by NEX, the remaining amount will be refunded to the registrant through Interbank Giro after deducting the registration fee.

Cancellation/withdrawal/deferment after course confirmation and before course commencement

5.2 Except for full-time language courses (where Para 5.5 below applies), no request for cancellation or withdrawal will be allowed if the registrant’s place has been confirmed. However, the registrant may request for a deferment. Request for deferment after receiving course confirmation is allowed once only, and subject to the availability of the course and places in the following intake of the course & with the approval of NEX. Upon deferment is being granted, the registrant is required to pay an administrative fee equal to the amount of registration fee stated in Para 2.1 and the published course fee within 3 working days for individual registrant. Please refer to clause 3.0 for payment terms of company-sponsorship. Should the following intake of the course be cancelled by NEX subsequent to the approval of the deferment, the registration will be deferred to the next available intake, subject to a time limit of 1 year from the original date of commencement. In such instance, should the next available intake of the course take place more than 1 year after the original date of commencement, your registration would be considered to have lapsed, and the remaining amount of the published course fee after deducting the registration fee, and the administrative fee paid would be refunded.

5.3 Should a registrant be unable to attend a course, he/she is liable to pay for the non-refundable registration fee (Para 2.1) and an administrative fee equal to the amount of registration fee.

5.4 Should a registrant be unable to attend a course but manage to find a replacement for himself/herself, no additional charges will be imposed. However, the registrant will have to notify NEX in writing, prior to the commencement of the course and to include the replacement’s particulars in the notification. No replacement is allowed for full-time language courses.

5.5 *For full-time language courses (IMP & ELP), a registrant who wishes to cancel/withdraw his/her registration priorto commencement of the course, must inform NEX in writing.  His/her registration fee and acceptance fee will be forfeited. If full payment for the course has been received by NEX, the remaining amount will be refunded to the registrant.

5.6   No cancellation/withdrawal/deferment/refund requests will be entertained after course commencement.

6. Transfer of Intake (for part-time language courses only)

6.1  A registrant who wishes to transfer his/her course registration from the registered intake to another intake before course commencement must make the request to NEX in writing at least 3 working days before the course commencement date.  Approval of such request is subject to the availability of the intake and places, and at the sole discretion of NEX.  Upon transfer request is granted, the registrant is subject to an additional administrative fee of $20 payable before the course commencement date.

6.2  Transfer of intake is strictly disallowed after course commencement.

7. Replacement of missed classes

7.1 There will be no makeup lesson for classes missed due to personal, medical or other reasons.

7.2 ² For language courses, makeup lessons may be permitted, subject to the availability of places and class, and the approval by NEX Student Services Centre. In such cases, the registrant will have to complete a ‘Makeup Lesson Request Form’ and make payment based on the pro-rated amount of the published course fees at the point of his/her request.

8. Certificates of Completion

8.1 Certificates of Completion for short courses and certification courses are issued to participants who have achieved at least 75% and 80% attendance respectively. For full-time certification courses, participants are required to achieve the stipulated attendance rate within a study term.  Student's Pass holders have to achieve 90% attendance according to Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) regulation. All participants will have to mark their attendance on the attendance list for every lesson they attend.

8.2 Participants who had missed lessons due to medical reasons will have to produce a copy of their medical certificate (MC) as proof, so that their attendance for the missed lesson may be taken into consideration.

8.3 Certificates will be issued on a per-intake basis (ie. participants registered in an intake will have their certificates prepared all together).

8.4 ² For language courses only, participants who were registered in a particular intake but attended makeup lessons in other intakes which are approved by NEX Student Services Centre (please refer to clause 7.2), their total attendance will be taken into consideration, provided they had duly signed their attendance in the respective attendance lists for the intake they were registered for, as well as the lessons attended in the makeup class. However, their certificates will be processed with the later intake.

8.5 For certification courses, participants have to meet the assessment criteria in addition to the attendance requirement in order to receive their certificates of Proficiency.

8.6 Duplicates/Replacement of certificate of completion can only be requested within 1 year from the date of course completion.

8.7 Ex-participant who require NEX to verify the certification of a NEX’s course which he/she had attended must make their request in writing by providing his/her name as shown on the NRIC/Passport, NRIC No./Passport No., course attended, course duration and verification purpose.  NEX reserves the right to request for more details if required.  NEX will revert to the request in 2 weeks.  Please note that verification is only possible if the request is made within 3 years from the course commencement date to the date of request.  NEX will not acceed to other verification requests e.g. Student’s Pass and trainers details.

² These terms & conditions are applicable to the language courses only and are subjected to availability of the course/intake and approval from NEX.  NEX reserves the rights to reject any request without offering any reason.
