Abstract
In this seminar, Prof Venkataraman will develop
a definition of entrepreneurial opportunity, delineate
its elements, and then examine it within three
views of the market process: i.e., the market
as an allocative process; as a discovery process;
and as a creative process (Buchanan & Vanberg).
Within each stream, he will examine the assumptions
about the knowledge (ignorance) of the decision
maker with regard to the future, and the implications
of those assumptions for strategies to recognize,
discover, and create entrepreneurial opportunities.
Depending on the particular set of assumptions,
the strategies include diversification, experimentation,
and effectuation. Finally, he will integrate the
three views of entrepreneurial opportunity through
an examination of the implications for strategic
management and entrepreneurship research.
