Synopsis
In this talk, Brenda will share with us her
experience in participating in the MIT $50K
Competition -- how the idea originated, how
the team came together, and how they worked
to developing the winning business plan -- and
how the team subsequently went on to found and
grow an actual start-up. The talk will be of
particular interest to those who are interested
in participating in technopreneurship competition
in Singapore and using it as a learning process
to eventually start up their own company.
About the Speaker
A Singaporean, Ms Brenda Chia obtained her
BSc (Hon) in ISCS, NUS 1988, and worked for
for Arthur Andersen and Deloitte & Touche
before going to the Harvard Business School
to obtain her MBA in 1996. While at Harvard,
she participated in the MIT $50K competition
with two MIT students and one Stanford student.
Although her team was not declared the winner
of the competition, they nonetheless went on
to found a company, Silicon Spice, to commercialize
their winning idea. Brenda worked for the Boston
Consulting Group from 1996-99 while continuing
as a co-founder of the company.
