Abstract:
|
Inventors generate both interest and admiration for their ingenuity, but how does one create a business from Intellectual Property (IP)? Dr. Bauer explains the interaction between markets and technology and presents a step by step introduction to planning and executing an effective strategy for producing revenue based upon a portfolio of patents, technical “know how” and product applications. Beginning with a thorough evaluation and understanding of the IP portfolio depth and breadth one must identify target markets, customers and applications. Then quantifying the opportunity provides focus for the business strategy and a clear picture of the value of the IP. The final step in planning for success requires the selection of an appropriate revenue generation model from the many alternatives available.
TechLead developed, and applied, the approach presented for both small and large companies. Successful examples of the approach to small startups as well as the world’s largest company demonstrate the applicability of the methodology to successful business implementation.
