The Workshop Program will be facilitated by experienced lecturers from NUS Entrepreneurship Centre. In addition, experienced technology entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, venture consultants and angel investors will be invited to share their relevant practical insights on each of the workshop topics.

Dr. Wong Poh Kam
Associate Professor, NUS Business School &
Director, NUS Entrepreneurship Centre
Dr. Wong Poh Kam is currently Associate Professor, Business School and Director, Entrepreneurship Centre, National University of Singapore. He obtained two BSc.’s., an MSc. and a PhD. from MIT.
Prior to joining NUS in 1988, he was a co-founder of two IT companies and the founding managing director of a consulting firm in Malaysia. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley and a visiting scholar at the Asia-Pacific Research Centre, Stanford University. He has consulted widely for international agencies such as the World Bank, ADB and APEC, various government agencies in Singapore such as EDB, IDA and NSTB, as well as many high tech firms in Asia.
He has published in numerous international journals on technology entrepreneurship and innovation strategy, and is the lead researcher for Singapore in the annual Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study and the Stanford Project on Regions of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SPRIE). He teaches technology management and technology entrepreneurship to NUS MBA and graduate engineering/science students as well as to senior executives in the NUS Executive MBA program. He initiated and directed the MSc (Management of Technology) Program in NUS, and directed/taught numerous senior executive programs in Asia such as the NUS-U.C. Berkeley Executive Program on Managing E-Commerce.
Dr. Wong initiated StartUp@Singapore, an annual national business plan competition in Singapore, and is the founding chairman of Business Angel Network (Southeast Asia) and a member of the board of directors of the International Angel Investor Institute (IAII) (Palo-Alto, USA). He currently serves on the board of directors/advisory board of several high tech start-ups in Singapore, Malaysia and Silicon Valley, and chairs the NUS Venture Support Fund Steering Committee. He is also a founding director of Monte Jade Singapore Chapter, a panel member of The Enterprise Challenge (TEC), and an international advisory board member of Korean Enterprise Development (KED).

Mr. Douglas Abrams
Managing Director, Parallax Capital
Adjunct Associate Professor, NUS Entrepreneurship Centre
Mr. Douglas Abrams is a Managing Director at Parallax Capital Management in Singapore, where he co-manages the private equity business. Prior to joining Parallax, Mr. Abrams managed information technology at J.P.Morgan for 13 years. From 1997 to 1999, he was Global Markets Head of Internet Marketing, and from 1991 to 1997, he was VP and Manager of Investment Banking Technology. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore’s Entrepreneurship Centre, where he lectures on New Venture Creation and Technopreneurship. Mr. Abrams graduated from the Annenberg School, University of Pennsylvania with a BAs in Communications and received an MBA from The Wharton School.

Dr. Aw Chye Huat
Director, UOB Venture Management
Dr. Aw Chye Huat is currently an Associate Director with UOB Venture Management. His experience ranges from R&D, marketing, to venture capital, having started his career as an IC design engineer. He was the Executive Director of CeHage Ventures, a company that helps grow technology ventures by providing value-add services in the area of strategy and fundraising. Before that, he was a Strategic Investment Manager at Intel Capital responsible for Intel Capital’s investments in the ASEAN countries. Prior to venture capital, he was the marketing manager at Hewlett-Packard responsible for the worldwide product marketing of infrared data communication components.
Dr. Aw is a member of the NUS Venture Support Fund Steering Committee and a member of the advisory panel for the Centre for Innovation and Enterprise at the Republic Polytechnics.
Dr. Aw graduated from Stanford University, USA, with a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management. He also holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore.

Mr. Neo Kok Beng
General Manager, InfoWave Pte Ltd
Mr. Neo Kok Beng is currently General Manager of InfoWave Pte Ltd, a joint-venture company of Singapore Technologies Electronics, Trek 2000 and Melodeon. InfoWave focus on building new & innovative products the areas of mobile computing and wireless communications. He has successfully come up with a series of ruggedised telematics products for transportation and government markets in Asia, Europe and USA. He is also Chairman and Chief Incubator at Incubators@Work!, a $20 million Hi-Tech Intrapreneurship Venture Fund of Singapore Technologies. Incubators@Work! has successfully launched 7 companies and 5 have received external funding from venture capitalists, private investors and government.
Mr. Neo also serves as Council Member of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore. He chairs the Electronics Engineering Technical Committee and also co-chairs the Technopreneurship & Professional Development Committee. IES has collaborated with NUS Entrepreneurship Center to organize technology entrepreneurship courses and hi-tech programmes for its members.
As a Council Member of North-East Community Development Council, Mr. Neo sits in the Entrepreneurship & Creativity Standing Committee which aims to promote and inculcate entrepreneurial spirits & community/social entrepreneurship amongst the residents. He is also on the panel of the Innovation and Creativity Fund, which is jointly set up by North-East CDC, Shell LiveWire and the Institute of Technical Education. Mr. Neo graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) with Upper Honours from National University of Singapore, and a Master of Business Administration from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University. He has set up companies and operations in Singapore, Shanghai and Silicon Valley.

Mr. Chow Yen-Lu
Founder & Managing Director, WholeTree TechnologiesEntrepreneur, Angel Investor, Mentor
Yen-Lu Chow's career in the technology industry spans over two decades, with the past 12 years in executive management and leadership capacities in research institutions, multinational companies as well as start-ups. Since 1997, he's been actively engaged in venture creation activities -- starting up companies, turning around troubled ones, building teams and organizations, and serving as advisor and mentor to budding new ventures. He was a venture partner of Venture TDF, a Singapore-based VC firm with a global footprint, and venture advisor to S.AI.L Port , regional incubation center for speech and language technology companies. An active angel investor, he sits on the advisory board of several start-up companies in Asia and the US . He also consults for government organizations including Institute for Infocomm Research (member of A*Star) and the Economic Development Board.
Mr. Chow is an active contributor in the annual National University of Singapore's StartUp@Singapore business plan competition, as a speaker, advisor, judge, facilitator, and mentor, and is an adjunct professor at the NUS Entrepreneurship Center . He has founded or co-founded three companies: AsiaWorks, a technology startup focused on multi-modal Chinese language computing; WholeTree Technologies, a speech and language technology venture, and Expara, an Entrepreneurial Leadership Consulting & Training Practice. As a internationally recognized technologist, and a Distinguished Technologist at Apple Computer, Mr. Chow was responsible for the development of several award-winning technology products, including: Byblos, a state-of-art continuous speech recognition system; PlainTalk, Apple's continuous speech recognition system for the Macintosh; Apple Chinese Dictation Kit, Apple's ground-breaking Chinese dictation product; SPK, the world's first integrated multi-modal speech, pen & keyboard input solution for Chinese computing; and WholeWeb, WholeTree's globalization management platform. He is the holder of 6 international patents, with 12 patents filed. Mr. Chow received his MS and BS degrees in electrical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and successfully completed Apple's MBA and Mentoring programs for senior managers.

Mrs. Chin Tahn Joo
Partner Cross Border Venture Partners
Tahn-Joo CHIN (Ms) is the managing partner of Cross Border Venture Partners (CBVP). Previously she was a partner of Venture TDF, Singapore, and WIIG-TDF Partners based in United States.
CBVP is a mixed stage IT venture capital fund investing in US and Asia . The fund will help US portfolio companies to tap into the fast growing Asia market, and invest in selected promising companies in Asia , in particularly in China.
Since 1996, Tahn-Joo has managed three funds with a total of $150 million. She has invested globally in US, Europe , Israel and Singapore . She was also the founding director of the Singapore-Israel Industrial R&D fund (SIIRD).
Tahn-Joo investment interest covers enterprise software, Internet infrastructure, telecommunications and semiconductor. Investments made by her include Redback Networks (RBAK), Brokat (BRJ.FNM), Cyrano (Nouveau Marche : CYRALN), Gric Communications (GRIC), Sina.com (SINA), Mediaring (Singapore Exchange:MRNG.SI), eSafe Technologies (acquired by Aladdin, ALDN), Teralogic (acquired by Oak Technologies, OAKT), MorphICs (acquired by Infineon, IFX), Oramir (acquired by Applied Material, AMAT), and Commerce Exchange, a joint venture with Visa International.
Tahn-Joo has spent more than 15 years in technology development and management. She was the CEO of Information Technology Institute (ITI), which is a leading government funded IT research institute, under the National Computer Board (NCB) of Singapore . She had been a chief information officer (CIO) for NCB, as well as the national program director for the Singapore ISO 9000 IT certification program.
Tahn-Joo obtained her MSC in Computer Science from Stanford University , MSc Industrial Engineering and B.Eng (First Class Hons) (Elect) from University of Singapore , and Diploma in Management Science from University of Chicago . She was a Loke Scholar.
She is also an advisor for the Singapore Defense Science and Technology Agency's newly set up innovation fund (www.capvista.com); and is an Adjunct Professor with the Enterprise Center of the National University of Singapore.

Mr. Ng Kok Chin
Chairman of OrangeGum
Mr. Ng is the co-founder and Senior Vice President of Natsteel Electronics Private Limited from year 1993 to 1998. He was responsible for worldwide marketing and sales and North American Operations and also the Principal activities of Natsteel Electronics include printed circuit board manufacturing and complete box building.
He was also the Co-founder and Managing Director of ECS Holdings Ltd from 1998 to 2000 and was responsible for all ECS Holdings activities, including distribution and consultancy of IT products covering both hardware and software in Asia.
In year 2000 to 2002, he co-founded and served as chairman of three wireless companies in Singapore, namely Orange Gum, Voium and Airgateway, where he played a key role in securing venture capital investment. He is currently an adjunct associate professor at the Centre for Entrepreneurship, NUS.
