About the Speaker
Dr Yoshiyuki Kaneda was born in Kobe City, Japan in October 1933. He graduated from the Department of Engineering in Osaka University in March 1957 and entered Sony Corporation the following month. In March 1995, he received his PhD. from Tohoku University. Dr Kaneda's background in Sony covers Seminconductor, Magnetics, Electronic Components, Production Technology, Procurement, Marketing and After-Sales Service. In January 1986, he was Director, Sony Corporation and was made President, Component Company in January 1994. In June 1994, he was appointed as Executive Deputy President and Representative Director. Since June 1999, Dr Kaneda has been the Corporate Advisor & Executive Representative, Western Japan, Sony Corporation.
Dr Kaneda holds other distinguished positions such as the Executive Director, Kansai Economic Federation, President of the Industry Innovation System (IIS) Japan, and Deputy Chairman, Committee on Information Technology, Kansai Economic Federation. He is also the Managing Director and Chairman, Committee on Corporate Management of Kansai Association of Corporate Executives. He has also received the National Day Award (Public Service Star) from the President of Singapore.
