GENERAL INFORMATION
Students intending to apply for performance-related majors are expected to offer an audition repertoire that meets our audition requirements (see AUDITION PIECES) listed. Applicants are also expected to meet the minimum academic qualifications for admission to NUS before they enrol in the University.
Prospective students are welcome to apply for admission from 1 September 2012. Applications should be made online via the Conservatory website at www.music.nus.edu.sg
Candidates lacking normal educational requirements may still apply but are advised that an offer of admission is only possible with further approval from the University.
As admission to the Conservatory is highly competitive, we recommend that candidates register their interest in applying as early as possible by submitting the online application and required documents once they are able to decide on their audition repertoire.
Applications may be deemed withdrawn if the required documents do not reach the Conservatory at least one week before the scheduled audition.
The Conservatory strongly encourages all candidates to attend the live audition and reserves the right to disqualify DVD auditions if the candidates are in a suitable position to travel easily to one of the audition centres.
Auditions begin from December 2012 and online application ends on 31 January 2013.
BACHELOR OF MUSIC (HONS) DEGREE
YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAMME
The minimum academic requirements for entry to the Bachelor of Music (Hons) Degree programme are listed in the NUS Office of Admissions website below:
For Local Applicants
http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/apply/local/admissionreq/BYA-admission.html
For International Applicants
http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/apply/international/admissionreq/BYA-admissionreq.html
Gradings obtained through external music examinations (example: ABRSM certificates) will not be accepted as equivalent qualifications in place of the academic requirements by the University.
Students with a music diploma from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and LaSalle College of the Arts may be given advance credits.
Students applying for the Recording Arts and Science major must obtain passes in G.C.E.’A’ level in Mathematics and Physics or equivalent qualifications.
Candidates should note that meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee a place in the university as admission to the University is based on open competition and would depend on the applicant's academic standing, selection of major study and competition amongst applicants. In exceptional cases, relevant experience and other achievements may be considered.
Candidates intending to apply for admission to the Young Artist programme must first apply for admission to the Bachelor of Music (Hons) Degre programme and offer an audition repertoire or portfolio based on the undergraduate audition requirements.
GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Candidates must have obtained a Bachelor of Music degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution before they can be enrolled into the Graduate Diploma programme. The Degree obtained from the previous university must be of performance in orchestral instrument or piano majors. Final-year music undergraduates may apply for admission, but an offer will be conditional on the candidate’s successful graduation from the university. Graduate Diploma in Music Performance is currently not available for voice, composition and recording arts majors.
Candidates applying for the Graduate Diploma programme must note that in addition to the general requirements for live audition, a DVD recording of 50-55 minutes’ music displaying various styles and periods of repertoire must also be submitted. The repertoire for the live audition may be repeated in the DVD recording. Graduating students from music conservatories may choose to submit their Senior Recital recording (if available) in DVD format if the repertoire fulfills this requirement.
