Simon Emes is principal Oboe of The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. He was a chorister at St Pauls Cathedral Choir School and studied the oboe at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where he won The Gold Medal in 1982. He studied with Anthony Camden, David Theodore and Maurice Bourgue. After a year with The Halle Orchestra as Assistant Principal, he was appointed Solo-Oboe of The Royal Danish Orchestra in Copenhagen. In 1986 he moved to Oslo where he was appointed Co-Principal Oboe of The Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1998 he joined The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra as a founding member. With the MPO, Simon has directed and recorded J.S Bach's F major Oboe Concerto. As a soloist he has collaborated with conductors including Daniel Harding, Rudoph Barshai, Paavo Berglund, Kees Bakels and Claus Peter Flor.
In recent years he has worked with The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and with The Australian Chamber Orchestra in their TV series Classical Destinations. Simon Emes will also adjudicate at the Wind/Brass/Percussion Finals for the Conservatory Concerto Competition.
