Founded in 1939, students from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music have won many prestigious prizes both at home in China and abroad. Sichuan Conservatory boasts of having student alumni such as pianists Yundi Li and Sha Chen (1st and 4th place in the 14th International Chopin Piano Competiiton) and the astonishing violinist Ning Feng (1st prize at the 51st Paganini International Violin Competition), who performs as soloist with the orchestra in Sibelius' formidable Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47. Tonight's concert also features movements from "Life" Symphony by Sichuan Conservatory of Music President Ao Chang-Qun in memory of the devastating 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
