Visiting Artist Series:
Creative Music Therapy - An Art and a Craft
Tue, 13 Apr 10
4pm, Conservatory Recital Studio

Dr Clive Robbins, presenter
Creative Music Therapy created by Paul Nordoff and Clive Robbins began its explorative development 50 years ago. This well-researched practice is in effect a new extension of the art of improvisational composition which depends on a high degree of practical and informed musicianship. Both the expressive art of music and the knowledgeable craft of music are integrated in this truly contemporary practice. Video and audio recordings will be used to present a variety of examples of Creative Music Therapy in action.

Dr Clive Robbins is Founding Director of the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy. He has worked with disabled children for over fifty years and has been active in the practice, documentation, study, research, and demonstration of creative music therapy with children and adolescents. Through his clinical practice, teaching, supervision, lectures, workshops, writings, and media presentations with staff members of the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy at New York University, Dr. Robbins has become internationally recognized for his teaching of clinical resources, his research into processes of music therapy, and for his commitment to higher standards of clinical practice, creativity and musicianship in music therapy. He continues to travel and teach internationally.
