Homecoming Series:
Kam Ning Violin Masterclass
Thu, 4 Mar 10
3pm, Conservatory Concert Hall
The Conservatory is pleased to welcome violinist Kam Ning for the first of a series of residencies over the next few years. A major prizewinner in several of world's most recognized competitions (including the Queen Elizabeth, Sarasate and Menuhin Competitions), Ning performs as a soloist and chamber musician around the world. Having begun studies with her father, composer Kam Kee Yong, she went on to the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Curtis Institute of Music (for her undergraduate studies), and the Cleveland Institute (where she completed her Master's Degree and Artists Diploma). She has studied with some of the world's most distinguished musicians including Maurizio Fuks, Wen Zhou Li, the late Sidney Griller, Jaime Laredo, Yumi Scott and Donald Weilerstein
Ning has also been honoured by the National Arts Council of Singapore with the Young Artist Award. In April 2009, she has also been invited to perform at the President's Command Performance at the Esplanade.
During her residency, Ning will focus in particular on one of her special passions, music from the last 100 years. In addition to a concert performance, she will also offer a series of masterclasses, both to conservatory to students and to aspiring junior artists. Ning performs on a c.1730 Guarneri Del Gesu which is on generous loan from Mr and Mrs Rin Kei Mei.
