Effective Teaching and Practicing
Tue, 2 Mar 10
5.30pm, Conservatory Recital Studio

Lee Pei Ming, presenter
The first few lessons for a young beginner are most crucial to establishing a strong and firm foundation in piano playing. What are some of the most important elements that many piano teachers tend to neglect? How can the wrists and arm move so as to help a student with sound projection when playing scales, arpeggios, staccatos and leaps? One of the other difficulties that many students encounter while learning music lies in note reading. Does your student decipher notes individually rather than intervallicly? With the help of little black dots on flashcards, students can learn how to accomplish speed reading by reading the directions of the dots. Using the visual and aural sensory, students can learn to establish note reading in an efficient and independent way.

Lee Pei Ming holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is Assistant Professor at the Conservatory.
