The Conservatory Orchestra opens the new concert season with two Russian titans – Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. Head of Violin at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Zuo Jun performs Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D, one of the most famous violin concertos ever written. Music Director Wang Ya-Hui leads the Conservatory Orchestra in Shostakovich’s epic Symphony No. 5. Written in 1937 as a veiled response to the Stalinist regime, the symphony contains a deeply poignant slow movement before one of the most grandiose finales.
