Born in Hong Kong, I Shyan Tang is a graduate of University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, earning double degree of Bachelor of Music (Cello Performance) and Bachelor of Music Education. I Shyan has performed with different orchestras and ensembles such as Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Opera, Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, Hong Kong Camerata, and Learners Chorus, to name a few. I Shyan is also the founder of the Purple String Quartet - a quartet which has been recognized for giving equal reverence to both traditional quartet repertoires and other less standard quartet genres like jazz, tango, bossa nova and pop.
I Shyan began her career as Assistant Music Officer (Strings) of the Music Office, under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong, mainly teaching the cello and managing student orchestras. Prior to joining the Conservatory, I Shyan was the Programme Officer of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In 2009, she was appointed to attend the 19th International Artist Managers' Association International Conference in Luxembourg with the CEO.
