DR LEE PEI MING
Assistant Professor

Lee Pei Ming holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she taught university-level classes and pre-college programme for young talents. An Adjunct Faculty at the Piano Academy of Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan, she was also the youngest faculty member at the Summer Arts Institute at the University of Michigan. She has performed actively in countries like the Czech Republic, Italy, USA and Singapore.

Lee Pei Ming recently graduated with a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She started playing the piano at the age of 4. By 12, Lee Pei Ming had completed her Grade 8 with the Associated Board of Royal School of Music and went on to attain her L.T.C.L. (Licentiate) and F.T.C.L. (Fellowship) with honours shortly.

In 2000, Lee graduated with Bachelor degrees in both Piano Performance and Theory, and was awarded Class Honors and the Angell Scholar for her four consecutive terms of As. For this commendable performance, she was also awarded a two-year fellowship from the University of Michigan for her masters in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, and was later the only recipient of a three-year fellowship in the doctorate programme in Performance and Pedagogy.

Lee Pei Ming has been a graduate student instructor for the past three years, teaching both in university-level classes and the University Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program, a pre-college programme for young talents. She was also the youngest faculty member at the Summer Arts Institute at the University of Michigan in summer 2002 where she taught high school students piano ensemble and literature classes. Last year, she was appointed Adjunct Faculty at the Piano Academy of Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan, where she was involved in the preparatory programme for the young.

In addition to her passion for teaching, Lee is also an active performer. She has performed in the International Prague Masterclasses in the Czech Republic, Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy, at the Esplanade in Singapore and in several parts of the USA. She has been invited to perform in the Shei Festival organized by the Asian American Society, as well as the Annual Law Conference in the University of Michigan. Lee Pei Ming holds solo recitals annually.

In 2002-2005, she served as an adjudicator for the American Guild of Music, a national piano competition in the United States. Being the president of Mu Phi Epsilon for two years in 2003-2004, she organized music performances in the outreach programme at Sunrise retirement homes in Michigan. Last year, she gave a well-received presentation entitled "Put the Play Back Into Music" with her peers in the Music Teachers' National Association Conference in Kansas City.

Lee Pei Ming's principal teachers include Logan Skelton, John Ellis and Ong Lip Tat.
