Katherine Wallace holds a Ph.D. in Music and a M.A. in Comparative Studies from the University of Alberta, Canada. Her research interests include Medieval and Renaissance music, the intersection of music and literature, and feminist musicology.
Assistant Professor at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Dr. Katherine Wallace currently lectures in music history (Baroque-Classical survey), musicology, history of opera, and Medieval and Renaissance music; she also directs the Conservatory Chamber Singers. Dr. Wallace holds a Ph.D. in Music (2002) and an M.A. in Comparative Studies (1995) from the University of Alberta, Canada. Her research interests include Medieval and Renaissance vocal music, the intersection of music and literature, and feminist musicology. Previously, she has taught music history survey and special topics courses as a visiting lecturer at Rice University, the University of Houston and the University of Alberta. Dr. Wallace has presented on various topics in Early Music History at the Renaissance Society of America National & International Conferences (Los Angeles, 2009; Venice, 2010), The Australian and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies Biennial International Conference (Hobart, 2008), the International Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference (Vienna, 2007), and the National Meeting of the American Musicological Society (Washington, 2005). Recent publications include “Lorenzo Costa’s Concert: A Fresh Look at a Familiar Portrait,” Music in Art (Nov 2008). Dr. Wallace has been guest editor for the Lute Society of America Quarterly vol. 38, no. 4 (Nov 2003), and is currently working on a book The Italian Lute Song for Indiana University Press. Katherine is also an active performer, voice teacher and early music clinician; she has recently acted as artistic director of the Houston-based Renaissance choir Piping Rock Singers and the Canadian Medieval ensemble Trobairitz, and has performed as soprano soloist with the Medieval music ensemble Istanpitta and Renaissance ensemble Canzonetta throughout the United States. She has recorded for the Arktos, Ablaze Records, and Istanpitta labels.
