RACHEL WALKER
Artist Faculty, Oboe

Born in Sydney, Australia, Rachel Walker received her musical education in England.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Cambridge, she went on to postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Douglas Boyd (Principal Oboist, Chamber Orchestra of Europe) and Celia Nicklin (Principal Oboist, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and the London Mozart Players). While attending the Royal Academy of Music, Rachel Walker also received the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music teaching diploma (LRAM).

An active performer, Rachel Walker played with the English Chamber Orchestra, the English National Ballet, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1997, she was appointed Principal Oboist with the Philharmonie der Nationen, playing in major concert halls of the world, including appearances on television and radio, special concerts at the United Nations in New York, and the Vatican in Rome.

Since 2004, Rachel has been the oboist with the Silk Road Ensemble. In July 2005, she performed chamber music with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble in Nagoya, Japan, as part of the World Exposition.

Rachel Walker is currently Principal Oboist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
