Yang Li-Qing is currently President of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Vice-Chairman of the Shanghai Musicians' Association and Vice-Director of its Committee for Music Theory, Director of the Chinese Musicians' Association, Founding Member & Vice-Chairman of Shanghai's Modern Music Society, and Executive Board Director of the Committee of Shanghai Returned Overseas Scholars' Association.

Born in 1942, in Sichuan, China, Professor Yang studied at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 1983, he studied piano with Kurt Bauer and composition with Alfred Koerppen at the Hochschule fur Musik Hannover in Germany.

Professor Yang has written numerous books on composition and his orchestral works have been performed all over the world. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Chinese Record Prize in Composition Competition (1986), China; First Prize for Composition at the Art Festival in Shandong (1989); Literary & Art Prize of Shanghai City (1991); "Outstanding Young and Middle Aged Experts" issued by State Council of China (1993). Prof Yang was recently awarded Honorary Fellow from Performing Arts Academy of Hong Kong in 2006.
