In Dalam (2001), Gill presents a photographic document of the material conditions of Malaysian homes through her survey of 258 living rooms. Djumini’s Relatives – Kerabat (2006) shows the economic and social dispositions of Indonesian households through a series of photographic portraits depicting families and their homes. Both artists’ practices have been shaped through the experiences of migration and diaspora, and their works may be regarded as extensions of their personal journeys and reflections. In their presentations, Gill and Djumini will outline the conceptual bases that informed their respective series and the artistic processes involved.
