Ng's
sculpture embodies his concern with themes of identity
and belonging, of basic human feelings and states of mind.
The theme of fear and anxiety runs from the late 1970s
concurrently with the Mother-and-Child and the Split series.
Figures are huddled together, singly or in groups, cringing
in terror or fearful anticipation. Their bodies are
compressed and turned into themselves, their heads are
partially hidden within the crook of their arms.
