Established in 1997, the Museum was formerly called the National University of Singapore Museums. Located in the University Cultural Centre in scenic Kent Ridge campus, it manages a growing number of collections housed under-one-roof. To the existing Lee Kong Chian Art Museum, Ng Eng Teng Gallery, and the South & Southeast Asian Gallery, will be added a new annex for contemporary art.
The Museum in 2004 came under the purview of The NUS Centre for the Arts (CFA) - a multi-faceted arts agency that promotes the quality and growth of the arts in NUS, Singapore and beyond. Museum, NUS Centre for the Arts’ mission is - through strategic acquisitions, exhibitions and research - to create an enriching experience of the social history and the art of Asia. The 7000 objects in the museum collection are valuable extensions of the NUS’ wider goals of providing a well-rounded education and creating an intellectually and culturally vibrant milieu.
Museum, NUS Centre for the Arts, manages and develops the University’s three art collections housed under-one-roof:
-
The Chinese art collection displayed at the Lee Kong Chian Art Museum, Lobby level
-
The South and Southeast Asian collection displayed at the South and Southeast Asian Gallery, Concourse level
-
The Ng Eng Teng collection displayed at the Ng Eng Teng Gallery, Top level
