Returning Exchange Students

After Exchange

Welcome back…now what?

There is plenty of information on how to go on exchange, but how do you return from it? Many NUS students returning from exchange find themselves lost upon their return, struggling to deal with the re-entry phase of reverse culture shock in the same way they struggled to adapt to the new country.

The NUS International Relations Office wants to help you settle back into NUS and we offer a Re-entry Briefing to do just that! You can also join the Peer Advising Programme with other returning students to help NUS students going out on exchange and international students coming to NUS on exchange!

We also provide you with a Returnee Checklist to make sure you don’t miss anything you need to do, and a Returnee Survey to help us improve the exchange programme for future classes of NUS students.

We hope you take advantage of all of these resources upon your return from exchange and hope to see you at an upcoming Re-entry Briefing!

Returnee Checklist

Did you collect your original transcript from your faculty or department?  Did you remember to check that your credit transferred?

Returning to life at NUS means getting a lot of things done and we don’t want you to forget anything!  Check out the returnee checklist to make sure you cross everything off your list.

Have you remembered to…

  • bid for your courses on CORS for the semester you return to NUS?
  • alert your faculty about any changes in your host university modules while on exchange via email?
  • ensure your transcript from the host university is received at NUS, approximately 2 months after the end of the semester?
  • check with your faculty that you receive the correct credit for the courses you took while on exchange?
  • pick up your copy of your host university transcript from your faculty or department (the Registrar’s Office will alert you)?
  • join the Peer Advising Programme to help other NUS students going out on exchange, interact with the incoming exchange students at NUS and share your SEP experience?
  • Attend the Re-entry Briefing in January/August?
  • complete the Returnee Survey?
  • share your experience, useful tips and advice for future participants by submitting a SEP Report.
  • post your SEP experience at Travelogue of a Blogger.
  • stay in touch with the friends you made while on exchange?

Returnee Survey

Were your classes too hard at the host university?  Were there wonderful social activities?  Was the housing a reasonable price?  Did you have trouble integrating?  We want to know everything!

Tell us what you thought of your exchange experience and help us improve the programme for future classes of NUS students by completing the returning SEP student survey today.

SEP Report

Was there something you wished your seniors have told you before you went on SEP? Have you had a great exchange experience and want your juniors to benefit too? Not sure which topic to start with in giving advice? Here is your chance to do your part and contribute back to the NUS community!

Fill out our report template with designated categories to share important information that are useful for future outgoing students. We may share your report on the NUS/IRO website and relevant information at SEP information sessions and/or in publicity collaterals.
