UC Santa Cruz students, faculty and researchers are working together to make a world of difference Within our extraordinary educational community, students participate in the creation of new knowledge, new technologies, and new works of human expression. From helping teachers improve their skills, to building more efficient solar cells, to working to save endangered sea turtles, our focus is on improving our planet and the lives of all its inhabitants. Undergraduates are able to choose from 62 majors, 35 minors and 50 concentrations in the arts, engineering, humanities, physical and biological sciences, and social sciences. All undergraduate students, whether they live on or off campus, are affiliated with one of 10 Residential Colleges at UC Santa Cruz. Each college provides academic support and sponsors events that enhance the intellectual and social life of the campus, in addition to housing students in small-scale residential communities. Every college community includes students with diverse backgrounds and academic goals. College affiliation is independent of choice of major, and assignments are based upon space availability. |

Consular/Visa Regulations |
||||||||||||
The F-1 student visa is a temporary non-immigrant visa that is issued only to bona fide students who are qualified to pursue a full course of study at an academic institution. When applying for an F-1 visa, the individual must prove to a U.S. consular official that they wish to enter the U.S. temporarily and solely for purposes of study with no intention of abandoning their home country. The individual visits the Consulate or Embassy with the following documents: (1) SEVIS I-20 Form; (2) valid passport; (3) financial documents; (4) admission letter from school. The SEVIS I-20 Form, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant F-1 Student Status is prepared by the graduate or undergraduate admissions office after the applicant has been admitted and has completed the financial certificate. The SEVIS I-20 Form is then sent to the International Scholar and Students Office to be forwarded to the student with information. |

Health/Medical Insurance |
||||||||||||
The University of California requires that all students be covered by a health insurance plan. All undergraduate students and all full-time graduate students are automatically enrolled in the university sponsored Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Plan (USHIP) or Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP) unless they choose to submit an insurance waiver with proof of comparable coverage. USHIP is an affordable health insurance plan tailored to the health care needs of UCSC students. It features year-round, world-wide coverage using the Blue Cross network, and includes prepaid access to care at the UCSC Student Health Center for illness or injury. This means students can receive convenient, high quality on-campus care when they are sick or injured without having to be concerned about cost or availability of the care they need. The USHIP plan provides optimal coverage for services on campus and in the Santa Cruz community, and peace of mind for both parents and students. For further instructions on insurance waiver or information, please refer to the Student Health Center website: http://www2.ucsc.edu/healthcenter/billing/insurance.shtml. Please refer to the Other Links Section for the relevant links to the university’s insurance policies. |
