|
The University of California first opened in 1869. The UC system now includes more than 220,000 students and more than 170,000 faculty and staff. UC is the major public research university in the state of California serving both undergraduate and graduate students. There are ten campus locations: Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, San Diego and San Francisco (a graduate medical school). See UC campus links http://eap.ucop.edu/ReciprocalExchanges/pages/campuses/campusesdefault.aspx. Reciprocal exchange students attend the University of California on a no-fee-exchange, non-degree basis. Students on the Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) earn degrees at their home university though they are enrolled at a university abroad. Spring as a starting term is only an option for the semester campuses, that is UC Berkeley and UC Merced. Spring is not an option at the UC campuses that operate on a quarter system. To reference the 2012 - 2013 academic-calendars, see http://eap.ucop.edu/Documents/ReciprocalExchanges/AcCalendar1213.pdf UC Berkeley (UCB) and UC Merced (UCM) operate on the semester system. Other UC campuses operate on the quarter system. One full academic year at these UC campuses is three quarters for a total of 30 weeks of instruction. |
