Located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, Cornell University is more than a beautiful campus. Founded in 1865, Cornell upholds its Ivy League status with a 31 percent acceptance rate, ample opportunities for undergraduate research (including the Cornell Research Scholars program), and strong programs in computer science, English, architecture, hotel administration and biology, among many others. Outstanding academics are available at fourteen colleges and schools. With an undergraduate enrolment of 13500, Cornell also offers a multitude of activities and clubs to its students. With more than three thousand students, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is the second largest undergraduate college at Cornell and the third largest college of its kind in the United States. In national surveys, CALS ranks as the best college of agriculture and related sciences in the country. CALS faculty and staff, and its teaching and research facilities are among the finest, and the college's educational programs are carefully designed to ensure that every student's education is geared to contemporary, real-world issues. |

Housing Options |
On-campus Housing: Students planning on studying at Cornell for a single semester, who have a choice of which semester to arrive, are strongly recommended to arrive in the spring (January). In addition to more housing availability, there are many benefits to studying at Cornell in the spring, including an exciting orientation program comprised of mostly exchange and transfer students. On-campus housing is always full during the fall semester. If students plan on arriving in the fall, they are encouraged to complete their housing application as soon as they receive their applicant ID or activate your NetID. In the past Cornell have been able to secure housing for all incoming students in the fall, but they cannot guarantee it. For all Cornell housing, you will be billed by the Bursar’s Office (www.bursar.cornell.edu). Consider your housing carefully before signing a housing contract; this a binding agreement for the academic year. If you are only here for one semester, your contract will be canceled at the end of your semester; you will not be billed for the entire year. Off-campus Housing: Students sometimes consider living off-campus in an apartment or shared house. This is difficult to plan before you arrive, but not impossible; please refer to the Off campus Housing Office webpage to find out more information. Be aware that off campus housing has no affiliation with Cornell University housing; so they find their own housing, they are responsible for any legal contract (lease), and they arrange their own payment to the landlord. Temporary Campus Housing: Can be arranged for students who want to look for housing off-campus. Interested students should contact the Housing Office. |

Consular/Visa Regulation |
You will need a valid passport and student visa to enter the United States. Once accepted to the program and your file has been processed by admissions, you will receive an DS-2019 Form which is required to apply for your J-1 visa. |

Health/Medical Insurance |
Because Cornell University requires that all students must have adequate health insurance coverage, all students (including exchange students) are automatically enrolled in and billed for Cornell's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). However, if students provide documentation to SHIP that their health insurance coverage meets the criteria listed below, they may submit an application to the SHIP office to waive (cancel) SHIP. The SHIP office determines if you will be approved to waive SHIP coverage--our office has no involvement with this. Students are required to get immunizations before exchange semester begins. Please refer to the Other Links Section for the relevant links to the university’s insurance policies. |
