Housing Options

Exchange students are REQUIRED to live on-campus.

Clarkson University provides a variety of accommodations from a single or double room to an apartment. Each accommodation is priced differently.

 
Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

International students who are accepted to Clarkson University on exchange programme must obtain a J-1 visa. 

To obtain a visa, you must submit an application and supporting documents with your passport to the U.S. Consul or Embassy that has jurisdiction over the place where you live. Once you receive your I-20 (F-1 Student) or DS-2019 (J-1 student or exchange visitor) you will then need to pay the SEVIS fee before you schedule your interview. Currently the fee is $200 USD for F1 students and $180 for J1 students and the SEVIS fee can be paid online, via western union or by mail.

Health/Medical Insurance

Faculty and Scholars in J-1 status are required to have medical insurance in effect which covers yourself and any dependents in J-visa status for sickness or accident during the duration of your program. Clarkson University has information on available insurance plans that meet the US federal government requirements and can assist you and your advisor with the completion of the application documents. You may also make your own arrangements; however, you must complete the Insurance Waiver form and provide the ISSO with the referenced information for your file.

According to US federal guidelines, the minimum insurance coverage shall provide:

 
  • Medical benefits of at least $50,000 per accident or illness;
  • Repatriation of remains in the amount of $7,500;
  • Expenses associated with medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $10,000; and
  • A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.
