From its inception, the University has concentrated on strong viable departments and teaching and research of the highest quality. The quality of York's teaching has received many accolades. York and Cambridge top the teaching league with the highest scores in official teaching assessments. The main campus at Heslington is a 200-acre landscaped park, well known for its lake and wildfowl. Here the colleges and academic buildings are on a level site within walking distance of each other. Proximity to the historic city of York makes the University a popular choice and provides a pleasant working and residential environment. |

Housing Options |
On campus housing: Most international students choose to live on campus as the rent is usually cheaper than living off campus and we can guarantee a room for you if you apply before the deadlines which will be sent out in your offer letter. You can either live in an en-suite single study bedroom or in a room with a washbasin and share a bathroom. You can cook food in a shared kitchen or eat in dining rooms and snack-bars on the campus. Six of the Colleges have common rooms, a bar, a television room, laundry, telephone facilities and a reception service. Off campus housing: If you choose to live off campus, York has a ready supply of good quality, competitively-priced private accommodation close to the University. The Accommodation Office website can provide assistance and advice on finding private sector accommodation. Living off campus is usually more expensive than living on campus. |

Consular/Visa Regulation |
If you intend to travel to the UK to enrol on a course of studies which lasts 6 months (or more), you must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK. If you are a Singaporean citizen or a citizen of another country on the UK non-visa nationals list, and if your course of studies is less than 6 months, you can apply for entry to the UK as a student visitor either prior to leaving your home country, or on arrival at UK immigration at the port of entry. If you are a citizen of a country not on the non-visa nationals list then you still must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK. Health/Medical Insurance |

Britain has a subsidized health service which provides free health care and treatment for people who are resident in Britain. Students who are enrolled on a programme which will last for more than six months are also entitled to NHS treatment. If a doctor prescribes any medicines these are subsidized but there will be a charge made for each prescription - currently 5.75 UK Pounds per item. Dental treatment is subsidized by NHS but everyone has to pay something towards the cost of their treatment. |
