Institution Profile

Since the University of Sussex was founded in the 1960s, its subject strengths have reflected a strong commitment to engage with the world. The university strives for an international outlook – to help carry out world-class research, to recruit the highest quality students and faculty, to prepare graduates for the global employment market and to inspire staff and students to make a difference in the world.

The university works in partnership with many of the world's leading universities and receives students from 120 countries. Around 20 per cent of the students come from outside the UK, while the teaching community comprises staff from 50 nations. University of Sussex is also determined that its UK students graduate with a world view. That's why one in seven of its undergraduates spend part of their degree overseas.

Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

If you intend to travel to the UK to enrol on a course of studies which lasts 6 months (or more), you must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

If you are a Singaporean citizen or a citizen of another country on the UK non-visa nationals list, and if your course of studies is less than 6 months, you can apply for entry to the UK as a student visitor either prior to leaving your home country, or on arrival at UK immigration at the port of entry.  If you are a citizen of a country not on the non-visa nationals list then you still must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

Health/Medical Insurance

Britain has a subsidized health service which provides free health care and treatment for people who are resident in Britain.

Students who are enrolled on a programme which will last for more than six months are also entitled to NHS treatment.

If a doctor prescribes any medicines these are subsidized but there will be a charge made for each prescription - currently 5.75 UK Pounds per item.

Dental treatment is subsidized by NHS but everyone has to pay something towards the cost of their treatment.
