SEP Application
Restrictions for Exchange Students

The exchange with University of Southampton is only open to students in Geography, Law and Electrical Engineering.

LAW students must do full AY exchange only.

Full year exchange or Semester 2 exchange is highly encouraged due to the severe academic calendar overlaps and NO SEMESTER 1 ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENTS will be given. Semester 1 exchange students have to sit for the examination at Southampton.

Full course load of 60 credits per semester or 30ECTS. Approximately 3 contact hours per module per week.

Please check with SEP Administrator in the Dean’s Office for actual application dates for your faculty.

Only nominated students by the faculty will be eligible to apply for fee-wavier exchange with University of Southampton.

Nomination for exchange to University of Southampton for Semester 1 and full year exchange is 15 Jun and for Semester 2 is 15 Nov.

 
Accommodations
Housing Options

On campus housing:

On campus housing is not guaranteed. Exchange students will be provided with the housing application link in their offer/admission package.

To increase your chance of securing on-campus accommodation in University of Southampton, you have to fulfil the following requirements:

 
  • You meet the terms of your offer of a place to study
  • You normally live outside Southampton
  • You are unaccompanied (i.e. you do not bring any dependants such as a partner and/or children with you)
  • You have applied by the 1st Aug deadline in the same year that your studies begin - Please note that if you miss this deadline you will be put on waiting list and we will not be able to guarantee an offer of a room, so make sure that you apply on time


Off campus housing:

The Accommodation Service can help you find private rented accommodation in Southampton and Winchester as well as lodgings and bed and breakfast accommodation

 
Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

If you intend to travel to the UK to enrol on a course of studies which lasts 6 months (or more), you must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

If you are a Singaporean citizen or a citizen of another country on the UK non-visa nationals list, and if your course of studies is less than 6 months, you can apply for entry to the UK as a student visitor either prior to leaving your home country, or on arrival at UK immigration at the port of entry.  If you are a citizen of a country not on the non-visa nationals list then you still must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

Health/Medical Insurance

Britain has a subsidized health service which provides free health care and treatment for people who are resident in Britain.

Students who are enrolled on a programme which will last for more than six months are also entitled to NHS treatment.

If a doctor prescribes any medicines these are subsidized but there will be a charge made for each prescription - currently 5.75 UK Pounds per item.

Dental treatment is subsidized by NHS but everyone has to pay something towards the cost of their treatment.
