The University of Sheffield is a leading research university based in the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. It was named UK University of the Year in the 2011 Times Higher Education Awards and is consistently ranked amongst the top 20 universities in the United Kingdom and Europe according to The Good University Guide.

The University of Sheffield won the award for Best Student Housing at the inaugural College and University Business Officers (CUBO) awards. It has also been named top of the Russell Group and the top of the Yorkshire and Humberside region by the Times Higher Education Student Survey. The university has produced five Nobel Prize winners so far.

In addition, the University of Sheffield offers a number of scholarships for exchange and fee paying students joining the Study Abroad Programme. Study Abroad students can study in over 39 departments in Arts, Engineering, Languages, Pure Science and Social Sciences.

SEP Application
Restrictions for Exchange Students
 
  • FASS (History - restrictions, English, Philosophy, Psychology - restrictions, Economics, Geography, Politics - restrictions, Sociology). Maximum of 6 full years or 12 semester places
  • FOE (Systems, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials). Maximum of 2 full year or 4 semester places
  • SDE (Architecture - restrictions, Landscape, Town Planning). Maximum of 1 full year or 2 semester places
  • FOS (Biological, Molecular Biology - restrictions, Biomedical - restrictions, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)
  • SOC (Computer Science).


Students are reminded to read Sheffield's guidelines on choosing courses and module restrictions:

 


120 credits for a full year exchange or 60 credits for a semester exchange.

Students should only go for a full year or in Semester 2 due to severe calendar overlap.

NUS Application Deadline

Please check with SEP Administrator in the Dean’s Office for actual application dates in your faculty

Students who are nominated by their faculty are eligible to apply for the fee-wavier exchange with University Sheffield.

The online application deadline for semester 1 and full year exchange is 1 May and for semester 2 is 1 Oct.

 
Accommodations
Housing Options

International students are guaranteed a room for the duration of their course. There´s also have a wide range of accommodation options for returning students including second years, final year students and postgraduates.

Once students are accepted, they will be directed to the Accommodation Office.

Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

If you intend to travel to the UK to enrol on a course of studies which lasts 6 months (or more), you must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

If you are a Singaporean citizen or a citizen of another country on the UK non-visa nationals list, and if your course of studies is less than 6 months, you can apply for entry to the UK as a student visitor either prior to leaving your home country, or on arrival at UK immigration at the port of entry.  If you are a citizen of a country not on the non-visa nationals list then you still must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

Health/Medical Insurance

The University of Sheffield doesn't have a mandatory health policy.

Students coming for courses of six months or more are eligible for treatment under the National Health Service. Medical insurance is not necessary therefore.

If you are here for less than six months, you may not be entitled to free NHS treatment and should arrange medical insurance before you arrive.
