Royal Holloway International plays a lead role in the College’s international work at home and abroad. It offers a range of language courses to international and UK students as well as promoting Royal Holloway in its major overseas markets, developing partnerships worldwide, and enhancing study abroad and student exchange activity. The Egham campus was founded in 1879 by the Victorian entrepreneur and philanthropist Thomas Holloway. Royal Holloway College was a women-only institution, and was officially opened in 1886 by Queen Victoria. Royal Holloway College became a member of the University of London in 1900. In 1945, the College began admitting male postgraduate students, and in 1965, male undergraduates. In 1985, Royal Holloway College merged with Bedford College (another formerly all-women's college in London which was founded in 1849 and, like Royal Holloway College, joined the University of London in 1900 and became fully co-educational in 1965). The merged college was named Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (RHBNC), this remaining the official registered name of the College by Act of Parliament. The campus is dominated by the Founder's Building, a Grade I listed red-brick building which is modelled on the Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley in France. |

Housing Options |
The Student Housing Bureau will help you find suitable accommodation whilst studying at Royal Holloway, whether that is halls of residence, private sector housing, or University of London intercollegiate halls. Students are offered a wide variety of on-campus accommodation, within a few minutes’ walk of all the teaching and social facilities. Halls vary greatly in size, appearance, age and atmosphere, from the unique character of the Victorian Founder’s Building to more modern residences such as Williamson, Tuke & Butler. There are catered-pay-as-you-go, or self-catered halls; as a resident in a catered hall, you are entitled to a discount of approximately 50% off the normal price of the majority of food items you purchase in all three Dining Halls (please note that meals are not included in the published accommodation rates). You may opt for mixed or single-sex designated areas. Many of our halls include adapted rooms, making them suitable for students with special needs. Students may only apply for on-campus housing after they have received their student numbers. |

Consular/Visa Regulation |
If you intend to travel to the UK to enrol on a course of studies which lasts 6 months (or more), you must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK. If you are a Singaporean citizen or a citizen of another country on the UK non-visa nationals list, and if your course of studies is less than 6 months, you can apply for entry to the UK as a student visitor either prior to leaving your home country, or on arrival at UK immigration at the port of entry. If you are a citizen of a country not on the non-visa nationals list then you still must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK. |

Health/Medical Insurance |
Britain has a subsidized health service which provides free health care and treatment for people who are resident in Britain. Students who are enrolled on a programme which will last for more than six months are also entitled to NHS treatment. If a doctor prescribes any medicines these are subsidized but there will be a charge made for each prescription - currently 5.75 UK Pounds per item. Dental treatment is subsidized by NHS but everyone has to pay something towards the cost of their treatment. |
