Consular/Visa Regulation

If you intend to travel to the UK to enrol on a course of studies which lasts 6 months (or more), you must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

If you are a Singaporean citizen or a citizen of another country on the UK non-visa nationals list, and if your course of studies is less than 6 months, you can apply for entry to the UK as a student visitor either prior to leaving your home country, or on arrival at UK immigration at the port of entry.  If you are a citizen of a country not on the non-visa nationals list then you still must obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa before travelling to the UK.

Health/Medical Insurance

Full-time students of any nationality who are studying at the University for six months or more can receive medical treatment through the National Health Service (NHS) by registering with the University Health Centre upon arrival. Once students have registered, most treatment is free. However, charges are made for prescriptions, dental care and optical checks. Students will be able to register with the University Health Centre during the Welcome Programme.

Students who are studying in the UK for less than six months are not eligible to register with the (NHS) and should therefore ensure that they take out appropriate medical insurance before arriving in the UK. Students who are studying in the UK for less than six months can still see a doctor but will be charged a £25 cash consultation fee.
