Bilkent University is recognized and ranked worldwide as the premier institution of higher education in Turkey. Located in the country’s capital city Ankara, a vibrant metropolis of 4.5 million, Bilkent is a hub of academic, social, and cultural activity. The use of English as a medium of instruction contributes a great deal towards the University’s truly international perspective.

Bilkent University was founded in 1984 as Turkey’s first private, non-profit institution of higher education. With world-renowned scholars among its faculty and top-notch facilities throughout its campus, Bilkent attracts many of Turkey’s brightest high school graduates. The university has 12,000 students seeking degrees in 6 associate’s, 33 bachelor’s, and 47 graduate programs in a variety of fields.

Bilkent University’s international community of scholars and students is an essential component of academic programs, research activities, and social life. International faculty and instructors make up more than a quarter of all academic staff, representing 40 different countries. There is a growing body of full-time international students, as well as exchange students visiting from more than 250 partner institutions.

Bilkent has a lively campus atmosphere with plenty of cultural and social events taking place throughout the year. The 1200 acre university campus is located 12 kilometers from the city center. Its convenient location offers easy access to the city’s parks, shopping areas, cultural activities, museums, and entertainment venues. Bilkent’s location in the Anatolian heartland allows easy access to major cities and many places of interest throughout the country.

Curriculum Structure

In general each student is required to take 5 courses (30 Bilkent Credits) per semester. However, minimum course requirements differ according to the department. NUS students should check with their own faculty for mapping of the credits.

Medium of Instruction for Classes

Bilkent is an English-Medium University. All courses are thought in English except for Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Faculty of Law (%80 of the courses are in Turkish), and Faculty of Music and Performing Arts and the Language Courses.

SEP Application
Restrictions for Exchange Students

There are no restrictions in courses or programs for exchange students. However students must keep in mind that the language of instruction in Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Faculty of Law (%80 of the courses are in Turkish), and Faculty of Music and Performing Arts is Turkish. 

Secondly, students need the approval of the instructor if they wish to take courses that have pre-requisite requirements and courses from graduate programs.

Accommodation
Housing Options

Bilkent University offers on-campus housing for all exchange students. In their acceptance packages students will receive their Bilkent ID number and Password which they have to use for their online application to the dormitories.

 
Via & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulations

Visa

Student will need a "student visa" to enter Turkey. Application for the student visa should be done at the Turkish Consulate in Singapore as soon as you receive your acceptance letter. Students are advised to make travel arrangements accordingly, so that there is adequate time for the visa to be processed prior to the departure.

Temporary Stay Permit

Students are required to apply for a residence permit in person within a month of their arrival in Turkey.

This permit is obtained from the Ankara Emniyet Müdürlüğü (Department of Security). The Office of Exchange Programs personnel will accompany NUS students for the application of residence permit during orientation weeks.

Health/Medical Insurance

It is advisable to enroll in an insurance plan in Singapore that covers your stay in Turkey.
