There are 12 Universities in Switzerland, ten of which are maintained at cantonal level and usually offer a range of non-technical subjects. The two institutes sponsored by the federal government are ETH Zurich (founded 1855) and the Swiss Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) (founded 1969) which both have an excellent international reputation. Due to the well developed finance industry and international institutions, Swiss education at the Tertiary level is particularly renowned for Finance and International Relations courses. Switzerland has also been actively supportive of the natural sciences, particularly in Physics and proudly hosts the Centre of European Research for Nuclear Energy (CERN) in Geneva. The CERN is known for the recent breakthrough development of the Large Hadron Collider which has captured the international attention. Switzerland and its multilingual culture is a great place for learning a new language. Most of the younger generation speak at least three languages including English and can easily switch between the three. |
