The Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) is the oldest and renowned economic university in Poland. It was founded in 1906 as a private school under the name of August Zieliński Private Trade Courses for Men. On 30 July 1919 it became a separate legal entity and was granted the status of an institution of higher education. It was renamed Szkoła Główna Handlowa (SGH) in 1933. Following World War II SGH was nationalized and its name changed to Szkoła Główna Planowania i Statystyki (Main School of Planning and Statistics). The school regained its pre-war name after the fall of communism in 1991. Today, the Warsaw School of Economics offers courses leading to Bachelor's or Master's degrees to both full-time and extramural students. It also offers doctoral and Postgraduate Programmes. Its Finance and Accounting programme is ranked in Top 40 European Masters in Management by Financial Times, 2008. |

Housing Options |
||||||||||||
On campus housing The Warsaw School of Economics owns three recently renovated dormitories in its vicinity, in the middle of the green district of Mokotów, housing annually over 600 regular SGH students from outside Warsaw. Every semester, the CIPD offers a limited number of rooms to exchange students in the Sabinki hall of residence, five minutes away from the campus. The available on-campus accommodation are double rooms, shared with another international student. Each room is equipped with basic furniture, has an Internet jack and a phone plug as well as all the necessary bedclothes and linen. On every floor there are two shared bathrooms and kitchens. The dormitory also offers a canteen, free laundry, gym, TV and snooker room, grocery store and its own cafe Equilibrium. Off campus housing International students not provided with on-campus housing must find their own private accommodation. When seeking accommodation on your own, it is essential to start well in advance as it has proved quite difficult, especially in the beginning of the academic year when Polish students are also looking for accommodation in Warsaw. A good start is to get in touch with your buddy who can provide you with useful website addresses of apartment’s ads as well as inform you about main real-estate agencies operating in Warsaw. On many occasions buddies personally help you look for accommodation during the first days of your stay as the CIPD does not have a housing office to assist you with this matter. We advise all students to book a room in one of many youth hostels in the city centre for the initial period of your stay while you look for your housing. Due to high tourist season between May and October it is recommended to make your booking at least 5 weeks in advance. |

Consular/Visa Regulation |
||||||||||||
Students outside the EU should apply for a student visa prior to arrival, especially if they plan to do an internship. A work permit may be required before you obtain the internship. We strongly advise you to contact the local Polish embassy/consulate to learn more about the application procedure relevant to your nationality and status. In some cases and places, visa issuance may take more time, so it is better to start this formality well in advance. The school will issue a letter of acceptance to all students upon request, so if such a document is needed, please contact them. |

The contract on providing health services specifies the kind and the scope of the services contracted by the given health provider with the National Health Fund. all international students are required to arrange an insurance cover for the entire period of their stay in Warsaw and submit suitable proof thereof to the CIPD upon arrival. |
