Lithuania

Lithuania, located in Northeastern Europe, is situated on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea and borders Latvia on the north, Belarus on the east and south, and Poland and the Kaliningrad region of Russia on the southwest. It has the shortest coastline (among the Baltic countries) facing the open Baltic Sea (about 38 kilometers).

Lithuania is the largest and most populous of the three Baltic States, and was also the first to declare its independence from the former Soviet Union on 11 March 1990. Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, lies on the banks of the Neris and Vilnia rivers. It is famous for its impressive and big old towns in Eastern Europe.
