Riga Technical University (RTU) (Latvian: Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte) (previously known as Riga Polytechnical Institute and Riga Polytechnicum) is located in Riga, Latvia.

RTU’s principal goal is to provide the Latvian national economy with qualified human resources for its stable growth and development. They work with their students and aim to share knowledge, skills and experience as well as try to impart the spirit of investigation, the desire to stretch their minds, invent and innovate.

Curriculum Structure

Riga Technical University offers selected degree programs in English.

The programs taught in English lead to the B.Sc. (undergraduate) degree in three years and to the M. Sc. (graduate) degree in two years.

The postgraduate Ph.D. program is individualised and requires minimum three years of combined course work and research.

Restrictions for Exchange Students

Suitable for students from the following faculties:

 
  • FOE (Civil, Mechanical & Transport, Electrical & Power, Electronics & Telecommunication),
  • SOC (Computer Science & Information Technology),
  • SDE (Architecture & Urban Planning),
  • SOB (Management),
  • FASS (Economics).

NUS Application Deadline

NUS students must be nominated by their respective faculties/schools before they are eligible to apply for fee-wavier exchange. The deadline for semester 1 and full year application is 1 July and for semester 2 is 1 November. Please check with SEP Administrator in the Dean’s Office for actual dates.

Please note that students who wish to study in the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning needs for semester 1 and full year have to apply by 15 May.

 
Accommodations
Housing Options

RTU hostels guaranteed. If students are required to move from current accommodation, they will be given one month of notice and assistance in sourcing for alternative accommodation.

All rooms in the University’s residences are double rooms therefore two students are expected to share a room.  All tenants have access to a kitchen (crockery and cutlery = pots & pans are not provided).

 
Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

You may enter the Republic of Latvia without a visa and reside for 90 days within a 6 months period. If duration of your stay will exceed 90 days, you will need a residence permit.

Please note that a residence permit allows you to stay in Latvia during the stated time and you have to leave Latvia once the residence permit expires.
