Korea University is a nonsectarian, private research university located primarily in Seoul, South Korea, and one of the SKY universities, a historical acronym used in South Korea to refer to Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University.

Korea University (KU) launches its "Vision 2005" program, aimed at improving the standard of education and quality of student life. With 14 colleges spread over three campuses in two cities, Korea University is the largest private institution of higher education in the country. Its reputation for quality education is unmatched by any other institution in the nation. Almost all the courses are taught in the Korean Language.

Curriculum Structure

Exchange students should take a minimum of 12 credits, up to 19 credits per semester. Each module is equivalent to 2 or 3 credits.

Credit-bearing Korean language courses are offered during the regular semesters. There are a total of 6 different levels from beginner to advanced level. No prior knowledge of Korean language is required but students have to seat for a placement test which will be held during orientation. Free Korean language classes (4 weeks) are offered to students who completed a regular semester at KU during the winter/summer break.

Korean (60% of their courses are conducted in Korean)

KU offers many courses in English in various disciplines and the number is increasing every year. The course list will be updated and available online in mid May for Fall semester and mid Dec for Spring semester.

SEP Application
Restrictions for Exchange Students

Medicine and Nursing are not open to exchange students.

Law, Philosophy, History, Business, Film making, Art & Design have limited places. Please note that there are high demands for Business courses and it can be difficult to register for the Business courses. Please indicate in the application form if there are any courses that you require in order to fulfill your degree requirement. You are recommended to prepare alternative courses and get approval from your department if you are applying for any of these courses.

Accommodation
Housing Options

On-campus Housing is available but limited.  There are two types of on-campus halls of residence at KU – CJ International House (I-House) or Anam Hall 2. Exchange students are advised to apply as soon as possible as rooms are allocated to students on first come first serve basis. In order to reserve a room, student will be required to pay a refundable deposit of KRW 200,000 upon application.

There is a wide range of off-campus housing available within close proximity to KU. Students who wish to apply for off-campus accommodation nearby the campus may refer to the off-campus housing list in the student handbook.

Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulations

Exchange students must apply for a D2 student visa before arrival. After you received the Certificate of Admission (CoA) and offer letter from your host university, please proceed to the Korean Embassy to apply for the student visa.

Health/Medical Insurance

All exchange students must acquire health insurance that covers them for the full duration of their stay overseas at their own arrangement and submit a copy to KU before enrolment. Failing which, their enrolment will be rejected even though they have submitted the offer acceptance form.
