Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), founded in 1971, has been the gateway to advanced science, technology and innovation. KAIST is situated in Daejeon, 1 hour from Seoul by train. KAIST strives to address the global challenges facing humanity through competitive research innovation and convergence.
KAIST was founded with government funding and was initially staffed with a number of Korean engineering and science talents educated in the United States. From the onset, the emphasis has been in theoretical as well as applied research. KAIST continues to be Korea’s foremost center of strategic R&D projects. The University helped pioneer the establishment of competitive research oriented graduate school programs in Korea.

Curriculum Structure |
|
Exchange students are recommended to take 12 to 15 credits per semester (equivalent to 4-5 modules). 1-credit course requires one hour of lecture per week. 1-credit lab course requires three hours lab time. per week.

Medium of Instruction for Classes |
|
Most of the courses are taught in English except for designated courses such as Korean course for international students, Korean History, Korean Writing etc.

Housing Options |
|
KAIST will apply for on-campus accommodation for all exchange students based on their student exchange application. The assigned dormitories (Double or Triple occupancy) for exchange students are furnished with beds, closets, desks and chairs for each room. Share faculties include restrooms, showers, washing machines, clothes drier, and a lobby on each floor. You will be asked to get a health check-up at the Medical Center at KAIST in order to live in on-campus dormitories. The costs is about KRW20,000.

Consular/Visa Regulations |
|
Exchange students must apply for a D2 student visa before arrival. After you received the Certificate of Admission (CoA) and offer letter from your host university, please proceed to the Korean Embassy to apply for the student visa.

Health/Medical Insurance |
|
All exchange students must acquire health insurance that covers them for the full duration of their stay overseas at their own arrangement.
