Consular/Visa Regulations |
Applying for a college student visa requires a Certificate of Eligibility. This document is issued by the Japanese Ministry of Justice. Health/Medical Insurance |
All foreign nationals residing in Japan for more than one year must join a Japanese public medical insurance program. Students whose stay in Japan is less than one year, but have a “College Student” status of residence, may join the National Health Insurance program. Joining is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended for such students to join. In addition to National Health Insurance, Tokyo Tech requests every incoming students to join disaster and accident insurance and personal liability insurance: the former covers cost of hospitalization and indemnity for disability which are not covered by NHI and the latter covers liabilities caused by damages which you may inflict on others by accident.
