| Studying in Hungary |
The Hungarian university training in sciences dates back to the 13th century. The high quality of education Hungary offers is well-known in Europe. This is one of the reasons why it has been a favourite study destination for students from all over the world. All Hungarian universities are in the capital, Budapest, or in traditional university towns, with lively student communities. Life in Hungary: The cultural arts are highly valued, and art exhibitions and performances of works by Hungarian composers such as Franz Liszt and Béla Bartók are well attended, as are operatic performances. Traditional folk music and dancing are still very popular, although most young people are now more interested in modern music. Most visits are prearranged, but close friends, relatives, and neighbours may drop in on each other unannounced. Relatives visit one another frequently. Most weeknight visits end by 11 pm (sometimes earlier in rural areas) because of early working hours. An informal atmosphere prevails during these visits. Although Hungarians enjoy socializing in the home, they also get together frequently at restaurants, coffeehouses, and tearooms, often for afternoon tea or an ice cream. |
