The University of Hong Kong (HKU), founded in 1911, is the oldest tertiary institution in Hong Kong and one of the best comprehensive universities in Asia. The campus is situated on the north-western slopes of Hong Kong Island between 50 to 150 metres above sea level and overlooks the wide sweep of Victoria Harbour. Since its establishment in 1911, it has undertaken the mission of providing a holistic education, developing the intellectual and personal strengths of its students. |

Housing Options |

On-campus: Accommodation is available at one of the 13 halls. Students have to submit an online application form at http://apps.cedars.hku.hk/residential_hall Submit your application between May to August for semester 1 and October to December for semester 2. It is subjected to availability due to intense competition. Off-campus: The Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) provides advice/assistance in finding off-campus private housing. |

Consular/Visa Regulations |

A student visa is required. The University of Hong Kong will assist in the visa application by acting as the local sponsor for exchange students. (1) Apply on your own at the local Chinese embassy (2) Apply through HKU If you apply the student visa through options (2a) or (2b), please submit your original visa documents to OISE. We will forward it to CEDARS or CAO, who on behalf of HKU will sponsor your visa application, once you are admitted by one of our faculties. Please note nationality is based on the passport you plan to enter HK with, NOT country of residence. |

Health/Medical Insurance |
||||||||||||||||
Students should carry adequate accident and sickness insurance coverage with provisions for emergency evacuation/rescuer’s expenses and repatriation for both durations of your studies in Hong Kong and travels within/outside Hong Kong. HKU Health Service provides free primary health care to full-time students at the University’s out-patient clinic. Dental service is also available at a notional charge.
