The University of Stuttgart was founded in 1829, a time period which saw the beginning of the rise of the industrial age in the region. Stuttgart made a name for itself due to the scholars that passed through it and it gained increasing importance. It is one of the leading technical universities in Germany with highly ranked programs in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

The university has two campuses - Most technical subjects (computer science, engineering, etc.) are located in Vaihingen, while social sciences, architecture, and similar topics are still located in the city center campus.

Stuttgart requires NUS to only send students who have completed at least 4 German language modules at The Centre for Language Studies or possess the equivalent knowledge.

NUS Application Deadline

Please check with your faculty for its internal application deadlines. After you have been selected by and accepted your faculty’s internal offer, your faculty would give you the application instructions of the partner university. An online application to the partner university is needed.

 
Accommodations
Housing Options

The Office of International Affairs can arrange housing for exchange students in student dorms upon request. Please be sure to hand in your housing applications by the deadline: Winter semester (July 1st), Summer semester (January 15th).

For the housing application form please contact the IA, incoming@ia.uni-stuttgart.de. As the allocation of dormitory rooms is done by the Studentenwerk (organisation managing the dormitories) we do not have any influence over the location or the exact price category of the allocated rooms. Prices vary from 240 to 350 Euros.

 
Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

Exchange students have to obtain a long-term visa (residence permit). Applications for the permits must be submitted through the German Embassy in Singapore. For further information please refer to: www.singapur.diplo.de (Culture & Education > Studying in Germany > Visa information).

Health/Medical Insurance

Mandatory public health insurance: approx. 65 Euro per month
