The Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU) is the first University that was founded in Bavaria. Established in 1427, it grew to become the largest university in Germany, currently having close to 48000 registered students, over 800 professors and 3000 researchers in about 19 faculties. The university is situated close the centre of the city Munich, which is situated in the south of Germany in the centre of Bavaria. Munich's charm and agricultural variety has attracted many companies to move to Bavaria, which offers students vast opportunities for internships and permanent positions with well-known companies.

According to Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) Rankings in 2008, LMU is the third highest ranked German university after the University of Heidelberg and the Technical University of Munich.

Accommodations
Housing Options

LMU does not have on-campus accommodation. A limited number of LMU exchange students can be accommodated in the residences of the Studentenwerk München (Munich Housing Service).

The Studentenwerk München owns various properties. If you apply for accommodation and get an offer, you will be allocated a room in one of the residences. Please note that the Studentenwerk offers single rooms mostly with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Deadline for application is 15th June (Winter term or full year), 15th December (Summer term or full year).

 
Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

A residence permit is required. In order to receive a residence permit, you need to present to the Ausländerbehörde (local foreigner’s registration office) a statement of financial support proving that you have at least € 650 to live on for each month of your stay. This can either be a bank statement, a parental letter or a scholarship certificate.
