Accommodations
Housing Options

The International Office will assist exchange students in finding accommodation (eg student halls of residence). Due to the limited accommodation available, reservations will be made on a first come first serve basis. The rent will depend on the choice/standard of housing. It typically ranges from 180 - 280 Euros per month for single rooms excluding meals.

Off-campus accommodation is also available.

Visa & Insurance
Consular/Visa Regulation

Students are advised to submit their visa application with all the necessary application documents to the German Embassy at least 8 weeks before their arrival in Germany. When applying for a visa (i.e. an entry clearance certificate for Germany) you have to specify the purpose of your stay (eg. acceptance invitation letter by the university or institute).

Exchange students have to obtain a student visa. Applications for the visa must be submitted through the German Embassy in Singapore. For further information please refer to: www.singapur.diplo.de (Culture & Education > Studying in Germany > Visa information).

Health/Medical Insurance

Health insurance is compulsory in Germany. In order to get a residence permit for your stay in Aachen you will have to show proof of health insurance. If your stay is not covered by insurance from your home country, you may take out a policy with a German insurance company.

Personal Liability

A personal liability insurance in addition to health insurance is recommended, as it provides compensation for a third party in case of damage or accident which you have caused unintentionally (for example on a bicycle).
