The academic year is divided into 2 semesters, autumn and spring. The programmes offered at the Finnish universities are based on a joint European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The ECTS ensures that Finnish degrees have a global recognition. Classes are typically conducted in the lecture-tutorial style
